About Us

The Calhoun County Humane Society (CCHS) has been serving the animals and families of Port Lavaca and surrounding communities since 2006. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and finding loving homes for dogs and cats in need.

Our Mission

At CCHS, our mission is simple:

  • Rescue animals from local shelters and unsafe situations.
  • Rehabilitate them with veterinary care, vaccinations, and spay/neuter services.
  • Rehome them with families who will provide a lifetime of love.

We believe every animal deserves a second chance, and we work tirelessly to make that a reality.

What We Do

  • Provide safe shelter, food, and medical care for abandoned, stray, or surrendered pets.
  • Partner with the City of Port Lavaca and local animal control to improve adoption rates and reduce euthanasia.
  • Educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering.
  • Rely on the generosity of donors, grants, and volunteers to continue our lifesaving work.

Our Impact

From the moment an animal arrives at our shelter to the day it leaves with its forever family, our goal is to treat each one with compassion, dignity, and care. Thanks to the support of our community, CCHS has helped countless dogs and cats find happy homes while also working to create a more humane future for all animals in Calhoun County.
